There are so many skin care products out there and so many ads saying how important it is to include this product and that product in your skin care routine.
The consensus it that there are four main steps in a successful skincare routine. These four steps are important for ensuring that your skin is in peak condition. We have listed these four steps below with some natural solutions, most are general household items for those on a budget.
4 Step Daytime Skin Care Routine ....
Cleansers remove the dirt and debris that has build up during the night, giving your skin a clean, fresh look.
Almond oil - almond oil is an efficient natural face cleanser. It is hypoallergenic and sensitive enough to use on a baby's skin. It has antioxidant properties and is enriched with Vitamin E, which nourishes that skin and provides a shield from the sun's harsh rays.
For a truly deep clean we recommend using our Activated Charcoal Facial Scrub
Toners unclog your skin, shrinks your pores and restores your pH balance. It is an extra layer of protection, tightening up all the gaps.
Green tea - green tea is a great toner to use for your skin. It is anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic and has anti-oxidant properties. This makes it healing and soothing for your skin.
To make the toner:
a) place one green tea tea bag in a mug
b) pour in one cup of boiling water, steep for 3-5 minutes
c) transfer to an air-tight container and pull out the tea bag
d) wait until cool and then use (will keep in the fridge for 2 weeks)
Optional extras are:
for skin brightening - juice of one lemon
for pH balancing - 56 ml apple cider vinegar
for a strong astringent - 15 ml witch-hazel
for soothing inflamed skin - 3-5 drops of Vitamin E
for acne treatment - 30 drops of tea tree oil
for a relaxing scent - 30 drops of lavender oil
Add any one optional ingredient to the cooled 'tea' and mix
To apply toner:
First cleanse face then apply 'tea' to a cotton ball and rub on your face (avoiding the eye area)
Repeat twice a day. Do not wash toner off as it needs to stay on to be effective.
Moisturising your face daily reduces the chance of developing extreme dryness or oiliness, both of which lead to skin aging and acne.
Olive oil - olive oil is perfect at nourishing and protecting your skin. It contains Vitmain E, polyphenols and phytosterols. It mimics some components of our skin's natural protective barriers. If you find the olive oil to heavy you can mix it with some water. To apply, just massage a small amount gently on to your face.
If you really want to pamper your skin we recommend using our Cocoa Butter Moisturiser. It is packed full of ingredients that soothe and nourish your skin.
To protect your face from the harmful rays of the sun. The ultra-violet light (UV), from the sun, damages the elastin in the skin causing it to sag, stretch and lose it's elasticity. The UV light is also able to penetrate the layers of skin and damage of kill skin cells.
There are an increasing number of natural sun screens available. The most important thing to look out for when buying a natural sun screen is that it contains a high concentration of either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Both ingredients are sun-shielding and are the only ingredients approved by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for sun protection.
Synthetic sun screens absorb the UV rays while zinc oxide and titanium dioxide act like little 'shields'. Early indications show that natural sun screen (containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) is better for long term protection as unlike synthetic products there are no chemical reactions happening on the skin.
Natural sun screens do tend to be thicker though and therefore take a bit longer to rub in.
If you apply these four steps in your daily daytime skin care routine your skin will be clean, healthy and well nourished.
